Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, needed to notify 1.2 million U.S. associates about a company-wide pay increase—bringing the hourly minimum to $10—via personalized letters by location on a single day. The scale risked disrupting store operations since managers could not meet individually with every associate, and traditional batch tools and manual processes were too slow for both the communications and the granular cost modeling required to evaluate different scenarios.
The Compensation team used Alteryx to build repeatable workflows (created in about 30 minutes) that generated 5,000 location PDFs and emailed them in two to three hours—each PDF containing 300–900 personalized pages and most files under 1 MB. The approach also automated associate-level cost modeling and produced multiple scenarios per day instead of per week, saving time, reducing errors, and enabling leadership to choose the best compensation solution.
