Using Spatial Analytics for Retail Site Analysis

Catalyst, led by President Jason Claunch and partnering with Slalom Consulting, needed to streamline retail site analysis that was bogged down by manual, repetitive work and overly granular trade-block data. Building demographic profiles and matching retail data across tools like qGIS and ESRI was time-consuming and inefficient, limiting the team’s ability to quickly identify and target best-fit retail operators.

Using Alteryx spatial analytics (Trade Area, Spatial Match, Grid, Intersection, drivetime Distance and a Map Input), the team automated profiling by aggregating demographic attributes around a 3-mile trade radius, filtering candidate retailers, and scoring locations with a proprietary weighting and drivetime analysis. The automated workflow cut an eight-hour manual process to minutes, enabled more detailed client presentations, improved client outreach and recruitment, and delivered immediate ROI—including closing a major client.
