A Alteryx Case Study
The University of Dayton, a Catholic research university with about 11,000 students and a growingly selective admissions profile, faced a challenge: rising costs and accountability pressures demanded better student outcomes, but relevant data lived in many disparate systems. Processing thousands of student data points from admissions, academics, housing and external sources was slow and resource-intensive, limiting the university’s ability to recruit, enroll, and retain the students most likely to succeed.
By using Alteryx to blend and prepare data for Tableau visualization, UD reduced a multi-person, two-day process to a single person running in about 30 minutes and analyzed 1,000+ variables across thousands of students. The faster, extensible workflows allowed the university to identify at-risk students sooner, improve admissions targeting and support, and contributed to a 3% increase in student retention while enabling quick expansion of analyses into housing, financial aid, and alumni outreach.
