A Alteryx Case Study
Aetna’s internal audit team faced slow, labor-intensive processes that relied on manual sampling and took two to six months per audit, risking missed trends and costly claim overpayments. Leadership sought to incorporate data into auditing to remove inefficiencies, improve process understanding, and provide better assurance across complex claims operations.
By deploying the Alteryx platform, Aetna implemented continuous audit models, full-population transactional testing, automated audit-plan visualizations and self-service dashboards (the ELI Robot). This enabled testing of all ~10 million transactions, monthly monitoring, and near-real-time reporting without data science intervention. The program strengthened controls, uncovered millions in potential overpayments, cut 5–8 days per audit (and ~20–30 FTE hours per project), and shifted auditing from episodic reviews to continuous oversight.
