Takenaka Corporation Applying Data Accumulated Over 300 Years to Next-Gen Architectural Design

Takenaka Corporation, a general contractor founded in 1610, had digitized over 300 years of architectural records but struggled to turn that rich, scattered information into practical design insight across planning, design and construction. Existing BI tools like Tableau showed attractive data but couldn’t easily integrate diverse internal databases, sensor feeds and external sources or support the one-off nature of many projects, creating high barriers to use.

By adopting Alteryx as a centralized data and communication hub, Takenaka automated extraction, cleansing and integration of internal and external data (including social media, sensors and AI APIs), enabling quicker prototyping and cross-team collaboration. The company cut data-cleansing time to about 30 hours (versus an estimated 10× longer manually) and reduced machine-learning training-data creation from an estimated 170 hours to about 10, unlocking projects previously deemed impossible and enabling new services like energy/water usage analysis, climate predictions and social-media–informed design.
