A Alteryx Case Study
Gradus, a Brazil‑based international consulting firm, worked with a multinational home‑appliance manufacturer that faced high legal liability costs from customer complaints about defects, service and warranty issues. The client relied on an outdated, third‑party manual heuristic to decide whether to settle or litigate cases, which was costly and inaccurate (only ~51% of cases sent to litigation had positive outcomes), leading to unnecessary settlements and missed savings.
Using Alteryx Designer and Server, Gradus cleaned five years of data, built an automated workflow and deployed a logistic‑regression model with stepwise variable selection to classify cases for settlement or litigation. The model reduced manual labor, improved prediction accuracy (cutting both false positives and false negatives), uncovered root causes (warranty terms, poor technical service, recurring service orders), and is estimated to save about BRL 1 million/year (≈US$200,000, ~3% of liability expenses) with additional savings expected from addressing underlying issues.
