PATH + Alteryx Join Forces to Fight Malaria in Africa

PATH, a global health innovation leader, teamed with Alteryx and other partners in the Visualize No Malaria campaign to support Zambia’s Ministry of Health and NMEC in eliminating malaria. The PATH-supported lab in Lusaka processed thousands of monthly samples but was hindered by a costly, cumbersome laboratory information system that required custom databases and delayed reporting. They needed a flexible, scalable tool to aggregate, report, and summarize data quickly to guide field actions.

Using Alteryx, PATH automated workflows to process lab results daily and notify health workers, validated survey data in real time, developed weekly forecasting, and performed geospatial and pre-processing for visualization tools. These changes improved data accuracy, sped decision-making, and built local analytic capacity—resulting in more efficient workflows, better-targeted interventions, and a reported 90% decrease in malaria cases in Southern Province since 2014.
