Modeling the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare systems with Alteryx

Vantage used the Alteryx platform to build a real-time simulation of US hospital and critical care capacity by county to help hospitals, health departments and governments allocate resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. The team faced fragmented, non-standard data from multiple sources (Johns Hopkins time series, hospital JSON, Italy and Florida patient records, and US census), and needed to estimate hospitalization and ICU rates at county and facility levels and map cases to the nearest hospitals to predict potential overloads.

Using Alteryx with Snowflake/Azure for storage and Tableau for visualization, Vantage ingested 6,700 hospital records, converted case time series into analytics-ready data, and trained logistic regression models from Italy and Florida to estimate hospitalization and ICU probabilities by age and gender. Combining these models with census demographics and geospatial mapping, they produced live, parameter-driven dashboards that model capacity shortages; the end-to-end solution was built in under a week, shared via VantagePoint, and generated inquiries from hospitals and governments.
