Actuary Patrick Digan addressed the pain point by integrating Excel with Alteryx Server via the Alteryx API, enabling users to call Alteryx apps directly from Excel so they could access centralized, validated processing without abandoning familiar spreadsheets.

The solution uses a lightweight VBA wrapper (configurable with Alteryx key/secret and appID) that posts JSON inputs to an Alteryx app, polls non‑blocking for completion, and writes results back to a designated Excel cell or retrieves files from a network share. The outcome: faster, more reliable processing that replaced hours of error‑prone Excel work, improved accuracy and stability, and made staff more efficient and productive.
