A Alteryx Case Study
Integration Consulting, an international strategy and operations firm, used Alteryx to help a Brazilian state pilot an innovative middle- and high-school education model. The challenge was to free up classrooms and teachers to support the new model without major new investment—an allocation problem made complex by constraints on class size, teacher qualifications, schedules and travel distances that made traditional linear optimization impractical.
Using Alteryx Designer with spatial tools, Batch and Iterative Macros, the team built a customized depth-first iterative workflow to assign students, classrooms and teachers across the network (over 500,000 students, 23,000 teachers and 15,000 classes). The solution enabled rapid scenario testing (50+ variations), produced a detailed allocation list, and identified opportunities to optimize about 4–6% of classrooms and 5–7% of teachers; the repeatable workflow supports an implementation plan for rollout and expansion to additional states.
