How LG Sherlock Cleanses Disparate Data to Improve Reporting Efficiency

LG Sherlock, an LGAQ initiative, helps Queensland councils turn dispersed operational data into actionable insights. The small analytics team faced a common public-sector challenge: ingesting and standardizing data from multiple councils and vendors in many formats (CSV, XLSX, JSON, etc.), plus APIs and scraped portals, across a technology stack built on AWS, Snowflake and Tableau — with Alteryx as the integration and prep layer to make reporting scalable and repeatable.

Using Alteryx Designer and Server together with S3, Snowflake and Tableau, the team automates ingestion, cleans and stages like‑for‑like datasets, blends provider feeds into a single uniform dataset, and enriches results with weather and geocoded data and predictive models. The outcome is faster, more efficient reporting, measurable cost savings (billing anomalies, tariff modelling, asset usage), improved benchmarking across councils, and new collaborative services such as a waste-management marketplace — enabling councils to answer better questions sooner.
