Expanding Legacy Systems with Alteryx + SharePoint

Downer NZ Ltd, one of New Zealand’s largest services companies, faced a challenge: dozens of disparate, aging information systems across utilities, transport and infrastructure made it costly to capture new operational metrics (for example, a “Made Safe” status wasn’t available in core systems). With upgrades unaffordable, the business needed a low-cost way to gather supplementary data and improve reporting without reworking legacy platforms.

The team implemented SharePoint lists as a lightweight data-capture layer and used Alteryx to pull job details from legacy systems, push tasks into SharePoint, and blend captured data back into exports and Gantt views for reporting. The result was a fast, minimal-cost expansion of capability (limited to existing licensing and time), better monitoring and customer service, and captured requirements that inform future system migrations.
