Democratizing Machine Learning at McGraw Hill Education

McGraw-Hill Education, following a digital transformation, needed a more efficient way to deliver actionable insights to sales and leadership and to move beyond slow, resource-heavy Excel reporting. The Analytics Office also wanted stronger data governance and the ability to use machine learning without requiring business users to code, and turned to Alteryx for advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities.

With Alteryx, McGraw-Hill Education built a governed machine learning platform and trained “business data scientists” through the Udacity Nanodegree program, enabling non-technical users to work with advanced R packages and automated workflows. The team now runs model validation and production workflows in Alteryx, provides monthly and quarterly updates to sponsors and leadership, and can do work that would otherwise require 50+ lines of code, while improving revenue insights, churn prediction, and optimization of learning paths.
