Birmingham City University Conquers Heses Regulatory Deadlines With Alteryx

University of Birmingham faced a tight, complex challenge of compiling and verifying student activity data for mandatory HESES and HESA regulatory returns, with only about seven working days between the December census date and the filing deadline. The planning and performance team needed a faster, more reliable way to combine information from multiple internal systems and external sources while maintaining data integrity and protecting funding.

Using Alteryx, the university built a repeatable workflow to extract, blend, verify, and analyze student data from SITS and other reference sources, with support from the Alteryx Community. The result was a HESES return filed in 7 days, stronger cross-checking and trend analysis, and reusable workflows that saved time, reduced manual rebuilding, and improved data quality across departments.
