Des Moines Public Schools, an urban district serving 33,000+ students, had student and operational data spread across more than ten major systems, creating “data islands” that made it difficult to blend information for reporting, forecasting, and decision-making. Traditional data warehouse projects were too costly, so the district needed a more affordable way to connect sources like Infinite Campus, CanvasLMS, and BusinessPlus, especially for Tableau-based analytics.

Alteryx provided the solution with Alteryx Designer and later Alteryx Desktop Automation, creating workflows that blended data from disparate systems and published it to Tableau Server. Des Moines Public Schools now runs more than 20 scheduled, unattended workflows one to ten times per day, giving users near-time reporting and the functionality of a virtual data warehouse without the expense of a conventional one.
