Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital becomes one of the most digitally mature trusts following closed loop medication management roll out with Sunrise KBMA

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a leading UK cardiothoracic specialist hospital, sought to enhance patient safety by reducing medication errors and advance its digital maturity. To achieve this, it worked with vendor Altera Digital Health to implement its Sunrise Knowledge Based Medication Administration (Sunrise KBMA) module, aiming to establish a closed-loop medication administration (CLMA) process.

By rolling out Altera Digital Health's Sunrise KBMA, the trust digitally validated the "five rights" of medication administration using barcode technology at the point of care. This solution streamlined workflows, saving at least one minute per prescription, and most importantly, reduced medication administration errors by 55%. The successful implementation directly enabled the trust to achieve a HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 rating, significantly advancing its digital maturity.
