Implementing Pediatric Oncology Protocols in Sunrise EHR

Phoenix Children’s Hospital was using the Sunrise EHR, specifically Sunrise Acute Care, for most clinical documentation but was still managing complex pediatric chemotherapy protocols for brain tumor patients on paper. This paper-based process was time-consuming, inefficient, and left significant room for potential errors, posing a risk to patient safety.

Altera Digital Health implemented 16 chemotherapy protocols, which included 33 treatment order sets and 31 roadmaps, directly into the Sunrise EHR system. This solution automated order selection based on patient criteria and improved communication with the pharmacy. As a result, Altera Digital Health helped the hospital achieve greater standardization, increased efficiency for staff, more facetime with patients, and significantly enhanced patient safety by reducing documentation errors.
