Manitoba eHealth, a provincial health organization, sought to create a province-wide electronic health record system to connect healthcare providers across its vast region. The challenge was to give clinicians secure access to comprehensive patient information from disparate sources to improve care coordination and reduce inefficiencies. They partnered with Altera Digital Health (formerly Allscripts) and implemented the dbMotion Solution to address this need.

The solution from Altera Digital Health integrated data from pharmacies, labs, and hospitals into a single view known as eChart Manitoba. This provided clinicians with immediate access to patient histories, saving them 15-20 minutes per medication search and significantly reducing duplicate testing. The system saw massive adoption, growing to 531 sites and over 7,300 active users, ultimately improving the quality of care and creating a foundational component of Manitoba's digital health strategy.
