Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK, sought to advance its digital maturity with a patient-centered focus to improve safety and efficiency. They partnered with vendor Altera Digital Health to implement the Allscripts Sunrise Electronic Patient Record and Sunrise HIM Scanning solutions to lead this clinical transformation and move towards a paperless environment.

The solution from Altera Digital Health was implemented with strong clinical leadership, shaping workflows to meet frontline needs. This resulted in the Trust becoming nearly 100% paperless, drastically reducing missed cardiac rehab referrals from 50 to just one or two per month, and achieving significant national recognition for digital maturity, including a HIMSS EMRAM Stage 5 rating. The initiative also delivered substantial cost savings, estimated at over £100,000 across ten years.
