SIU Medicine, a multispecialty academic physician practice, faced challenges with a lack of standardized documentation and an inability to report on preventative care screenings and quality measures within their old EHR platform. This made it difficult to measure and improve performance. To address this, they transitioned to the Allscripts TouchWorks EHR and Allscripts CareInMotion platform with the goal of standardizing care documentation.

With the Allscripts solutions, SIU Medicine established a cross-functional workgroup which used Lean Six Sigma methodology to design an efficient, standardized documentation process within the EHR. By piloting the new workflows in primary care, they increased compliance significantly. Allscripts' tools enabled them to boost screening for fall risk from 17% to 78% and depression screening from 3% to 49%, surpassing or nearing national benchmarks and directly improving the quality of patient care.
