Case Study: PIH Health achieves interoperability and better care coordination with Altera Digital Health's dbMotion Solution

Achieving interoperability by connecting EHR systems and harmonizing data

PIH Health, a large health system in California, faced a significant interoperability challenge. Following an acquisition, it needed to seamlessly integrate patient data from a newly acquired hospital that used a non-Altera EHR with its own Altera Sunrise EHR systems. The goal was to provide clinicians with a complete, unified view of patient records to improve care coordination across its network of facilities.

To solve this, Altera Digital Health implemented its dbMotion Solution. This platform integrated and harmonized over 2.3 million historical patient documents from the legacy system into the Sunrise EHR. This eliminated the need for a costly legacy system and made historical data readily accessible to clinicians. Furthermore, by connecting to the national Carequality network through dbMotion, Altera enabled PIH Health to exchange data with 34 other healthcare organizations. The result was a more comprehensive patient view for clinicians, leading to better-informed decisions and enhanced patient outcomes, while also achieving significant financial savings from system consolidation.
