Pacific Rim Engineered Products (PREP), an engineering firm in Vancouver, virtualized its server estate in 2013 to improve utilization and optimize IT infrastructure. Their existing file-based backup solution proved inadequate for VMs — restores were unreliable, converting VMs to different hosts was problematic, and older backup files had to be deleted manually to free storage.
