A Altair Case Study
Motorola, a global leader in wireless devices, faced shrinking design cycles, rising product complexity and the need to lower production costs while meeting aggressive market launch dates. To capture “real‑world” drop and durability behavior earlier in development, Motorola expanded its use of computer‑aided engineering and adopted Altair’s HyperWorks suite for up‑front simulation, prototype testing and process automation.
Altair delivered HyperWorks tools and custom automation (including automated geometry cleanup, mesh generation, an “interference matrix”/interference solution GUI and .h3d/HyperView reporting) that moved simulation up front and cut model‑build effort dramatically. With Altair, model setup dropped from 20 days to about 2 days (example: one phone model went from geometry to ready‑to‑run in 16 hours), interference checks fell from ~15–20 hours to ~1 hour (80–90% savings), and CAE cycle time in examples went from as long as eight weeks to roughly 24 hours—enabling ~40 system‑level drop simulations before tooling and faster, more robust product launches.
