Unilever Customizes Solutions to Reduce Packaging Waste

Unilever needed to reduce the environmental impact and material used in its packaging while ensuring packs remained strong enough for transportation and varied use conditions. To address this challenge, Unilever engaged Altair (via Altair ProductDesign) to apply advanced virtual simulation technology, using Altair’s HyperWorks suite to create a customized virtual test lab called “Atlas.”

Altair ProductDesign implemented the Atlas system—integrated with Unilever’s CAD tools and including manufacturing simulation modules (ISBM and EBM), load and usage testing, and automated reporting—so CAD engineers could run simulations, explore innovative designs and new materials, and avoid costly physical trials. The Altair solution compressed packaging development time and reduced the amount of material required during manufacture.
