A Altair Case Study
Talaria, a Delft University of Technology student‑founded startup developing an electrically driven one‑person Personal Air Mobility (PAM) vehicle, faced the challenge of cutting weight, reducing the number of unique components, and speeding up production while maintaining safety for urban vertical takeoff and landing. To address this, Talaria turned to Altair and used Altair Inspire simulation and topology‑optimization tools to explore lightweight, manufacturable designs for critical rotor hubs intended for 3D printing.
Using Altair Inspire, Talaria optimized hub geometry and prepared designs for additive manufacturing in titanium, achieving a 1.5 kg weight reduction (about 30% of total weight) and roughly 50% savings in unique components and volume. The redesign also cut post‑production work—reducing treated parts from 12 to 4—significantly shortening lead times and simplifying production; Altair’s software enabled faster iterations and will be used in future Talaria development.
