Case Study: Maplesoft achieves optimized Formula E system-level modeling with Altair

A Altair Case Study

Preview of the Maplesoft Case Study

Taking the Lead in Formula E - High-Performance Racing with System-Level Modeling

Maplesoft was asked by a leading Formula E team to develop dynamic, system-level models of their race car so engineers could optimize performance within tight regulations (notably a standardized battery). To meet this challenge, Maplesoft worked with vendor Altair using the MapleSim system-level modeling tool to capture the multidomain dynamics needed for track- and condition-specific strategies.

Altair implemented a validated MapleSim model that integrated chassis, steering (including FanBoost), tires, battery, inverter, motor, gearbox and tuned suspension components using real test data. The Altair-backed solution enabled real-time simulations and what-if analyses — improving battery-use strategies, FanBoost timing, and handling responses (e.g., to tire pressure changes) — and delivered validated, actionable insights that informed both vehicle design tweaks and race-day strategy.
