A Altair Case Study
Skaigh Engineering, based in Devon, U.K., is a specialist in high-quality aluminum gravity die castings that provides end-to-end services from design and tooling to finishing. Facing increasing part complexity, wasted time fixing customers’ poor manufacturing techniques, long lead times from trial-and-error development, and the need to cut development and manufacturing costs, Skaigh turned to Altair and adopted Altair® Inspire™ Cast to bring simulation into its process development.
Working with Altair’s partner Origin Engineering Solutions to implement Inspire Cast, Skaigh simulated part filling, redesigned gating and sprue systems, and replaced a 15‑year‑old actuator die, while Inspire Cast’s last air analysis revealed and allowed removal of air entrapments that caused surface defects. The Altair solution let Skaigh explore concepts earlier, eliminate defects, reduce scrap and lead/development times, improve yields and part quality, and save time and cost.
