Self-Service Data Prep Cuts School System’s Payroll, HR and Business Data Processing from Weeks to Hours

San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, which supports 40 K–14 districts (and partners with five additional counties) serving over 400,000 students, faced tight budgets and growing payroll/HR reporting demands to comply with the Affordable Care Act, the Healthy Workplace Healthy Family Act and other regulations. To avoid costly system upgrades and heavy manual work, the district selected Altair’s self‑service data preparation solution to help integrate disparate payroll, HR and business data and respond quickly to ad hoc information requests.

Altair implemented a self‑service data preparation platform used by more than 300 users, enabling payroll clerks to compile substitute‑teacher and healthcare coverage data, automate data acquisition and validation, and run ad hoc reports without IT involvement. As a result, Altair helped cut reporting time from weeks to hours (quarterly payroll validation dropped from three weeks to under an hour), saved the equivalent of about four days of employee time per month on payroll tasks, and ensured faster, more accurate regulatory compliance.
