A Altair Case Study
Safran, a manufacturer of aircraft seating, faced tight development schedules and stringent safety and certification requirements (including 16 g impact scenarios) for custom passenger and crew seats. To reduce costly prototyping and certification cycles and improve first-pass compliance, Safran adopted Altair’s HyperWorks simulation platform—using HyperMesh, HyperView, HyperCrash and the RADIOSS solver—to expand virtual static and dynamic testing.
Using Altair’s tools and a customized RADIOSS dummy, Safran shifted much of its validation into simulation, enabling faster design iterations, fewer physical tests and quicker identification of failure modes. The move cut certification costs and development time, reduced initial test failures, and supports Safran’s goal of a 90% first-pass pass rate for new seat concepts—all achieved with Altair’s software and support.
