Safety Comes First Development of a Maxi-Cosi Child Seat Using a CAE-Driven Design Process

Code Product Solutions, an engineering and consulting firm, was engaged by Dorel Juvenile to redesign the Maxi‑Cosi 2wayPearl seat base to add rearward‑facing functionality while coping with increased loads, tighter packaging and new European I‑size safety regulations. To address these challenges, Code Product Solutions used Altair’s HyperWorks CAE suite — including HyperMesh, RADIOSS, OptiStruct, HyperCrash and HyperView — plus PBS Professional and APA‑provided MADYMO dummies to drive simulation early in the design process.

Using Altair technologies, Code Product Solutions implemented a CAE‑driven workflow with automated model generation for all 12 required load cases, HPC job scheduling via PBS Professional, and automated reporting in HyperView. The Altair‑based solution delivered a first‑time‑right design with no interim physical prototypes, met the new I‑size requirements, shortened time to market, reduced testing and tooling costs, and improved hardware/software utilization across the company’s HPC cluster.
