Ryerson's International Hyperloop Team - Customer Case Study

Ryerson's International Hyperloop Team (RIHT) needed a deployable wheel subsystem—a landing‑gear‑style bracket for a Hyperloop pod operating under 100 mph. The student team partnered with Altair and leveraged solidThinking Inspire to explore topology‑optimized, additive‑manufacturing‑friendly designs.

Using Altair’s solidThinking Inspire, the team ran multiple optimization iterations, converted shapes with PolyNURBS, and validated designs with FEA before handing files to Burloak for metal additive manufacturing. The Altair‑driven workflow produced an AlSi10Mg bracket about 77% lighter than the original, saved roughly 53 in3 of wasted material per bracket, and compressed the design cycle to about a week.
