A Altair Case Study
Andiamo, a London-based medical device start-up, set out to challenge the traditional, handmade children’s orthotics industry—where plaster casts, long lead times and poor fits often cause bruising, discomfort and repeated clinic visits. To modernize this process they partnered with Altair and adopted Altair’s simulation-driven approach (using HyperWorks solvers such as OptiStruct and Radioss) alongside 3D body scanning and 3D printing.
Working with Altair’s engineering team, Andiamo integrated 3D scans with Altair HyperWorks simulations to predict contact and pressure points, optimize orthosis geometry, and then 3D print patient-specific devices. The Altair-enabled solution delivers lighter, better-fitting braces in days or weeks (Andiamo now delivers within about two weeks), eliminates many revision appointments, reduces bruising and discomfort, and measurably improves children’s mobility and family quality of life.
