Reducing Lead Time and Increasing Vehicle Quality with Squeak and Rattle Simulation

Calsonic Kansei Corporation, a global automotive parts supplier, faced persistent interior squeak and rattle (S&R) issues that were hard to detect before hardware build, limiting their ability to prevent noise and refinement problems early in development. To close this gap they engaged Altair and its Squeak & Rattle Director (SnRD) offering to build S&R simulation capability and train their CAE team.

Altair worked jointly with Calsonic Kansei on a cockpit project, providing SnRD-based analyses, tailored scripts, training and guidance on FE-model fidelity, load creation and material/damping correlation. The collaboration led to elimination of center-stack noise, better correlation across load cases, earlier detection of S&R issues, and a substantially reduced project lead time — enabling Calsonic Kansei to add CAE-based S&R prevention to its service portfolio and plan global deployment of the methodology.
