A Altair Case Study
RF2B, a wireless design services company specializing in custom antenna design and validation, was tasked with developing a phased array proof-of-concept for CBRS small-cell base stations at 3.5 GHz and needed to meet tight beam‑steering, grating lobe suppression, efficiency and schedule requirements. To accelerate high‑level tradeoff analysis and include the feed network and mechanical enclosure in the design loop, RF2B turned to Altair and used Altair Feko for fast, accurate simulation.
Altair delivered Altair Feko’s finite array analysis and built‑in synthesis scripts, which reduced memory use and sped up model building and simulation—cutting phased array design time by about 25% and allowing full simulations on an off‑the‑shelf desktop. The optimized design (including enclosure and radome) was fabricated and validated in an anechoic chamber with measured gain, steering range and efficiency closely matching Feko simulations, meeting the customer’s schedule and performance targets.
