A Altair Case Study
ProteusDS, a developer of dynamic analysis software for offshore systems, needed to tackle complex engineering challenges across mooring design, riser and pipeline installation, tidal energy platform dynamics, and pipe‑lay operations — all requiring accurate modeling of line tension, hydrodynamic loading, seabed interaction and real‑time ROV training data. To meet these needs ProteusDS worked with Altair, deploying the ProteusDS physics engine and its finite‑element cable and hydrodynamic modeling capabilities to represent flexible lines, risers, umbilicals and floating‑system responses.
Altair delivered a solution built on a cubic‑spline lumped‑mass cable model, torsional/bending effects, time‑domain hydrodynamic loading and integration with VROV for real‑time simulation. The result was substantially faster simulations thanks to longer allowable element lengths, accurate capture of slack‑line and snap‑load events, automated reporting for standards compliance, and the ability to run hundreds of scenarios — yielding measurable reductions in engineering time, cost and operational risk for ProteusDS projects.
