Predicting & Eliminating Squeak & Rattle Noise at FIAT

FIAT, one of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers, needed a reliable way to predict and eliminate squeak and rattle noise during vehicle development to avoid costly late-stage fixes. FIAT partnered with Altair and adopted Altair’s Squeak & Rattle Director (SNRD) to bring NVH squeak & rattle simulation into the virtual design stage for its region-specific models developed at the Belo Horizonte facility.

Altair implemented SNRD with customization and training, enabling FIAT to import linear models, correlate simulations with test data, and run sensitivity studies on materials, tolerances and loads to identify risk areas and design remedies. Using Altair’s solution, FIAT accelerated development cycles, improved product quality, and reduced the need for late hardware fixes—producing measurable time and cost savings by finding and removing squeak and rattle issues earlier in the process.
