PBS Works Suite Deployed for Comprehensive Workload Management at The University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham needed more than a traditional job scheduler to support over 100 diverse research groups and 200+ HPC users; they sought a full workload management solution that would improve scheduling, monitoring, usability and reporting. After evaluating options, the University selected Altair’s PBS Works suite (including PBS Professional, PBS Analytics and Compute Manager) to meet these requirements.

Altair configured PBS Works across the University’s HPC cluster of approximately 170 machines, delivering simplified job submission, stronger enforcement of resource allocation, and deep visibility into usage through PBS Analytics. As a result, the University reports improved cluster reliability and more successful job completion, easier workload analysis for planning, and an ongoing rollout of Compute Manager to broaden HPC access — outcomes driven by Altair’s integrated solution and support.
