PBS Professional at TRW Automotive a Standard Solution for European Design Centers

TRW Automotive, a global Tier One supplier of vehicle safety systems, needed more compute power and a standardized, flexible CAE environment across its European engineering centers. The Chassis group wanted to move engineers off standalone desktops onto shared HPC clusters and have the computing environment automatically decide which hardware to use for maximum efficiency. They selected Altair’s PBS Professional workload management software (with implementation support from GNS Systems) to address these requirements.

GNS Systems deployed Linux/Intel clusters and configured Altair’s PBS Professional across multiple TRW sites, creating a common CAE environment that automates job scheduling and resource allocation. The Altair solution delivered faster CAE turnaround, balanced node utilization, simplified web-based job submission for about 20 users, and higher throughput for large job volumes—resulting in improved hardware utilization, reduced administration, and better ROI.
