A Altair Case Study
Trelleborg’s Engineering Center in Michigan, part of the Swedish polymer-components maker, needed more CPU time to run finite element analysis (FEA) without adding staff or hardware. Altair recommended its PBS Professional product to harvest and manage off‑hour CPU cycles on existing workstations and to maximize use of their Abaqus licenses.
Altair implemented PBS Professional to queue and dispatch jobs across six CAD/FEA workstations and manage licenses overnight and on weekends. Nightly throughput jumped from about 6–9 jobs to averages of 10–20 (with peaks of 30–40), two engineers produced 450 CPU days in the first year, and PBS accounted for roughly 50–60 of 90 available CPU days per month (~60% license utilization). The solution paid for itself in days, avoided costly new licenses or hires, and made Trelleborg more agile in winning contracts.
