A Altair Case Study
Protiq GmbH, a spin-off of Phoenix Contact offering a global one‑click platform for additively manufactured parts, faced pricing pressure and the need to boost productivity in toolmaking by reducing injection‑mold cycle times, thermal deformation and overall tool cost. To address this, Protiq partnered with Altair, leveraging Altair ProductDesign consulting and software from the HyperWorks suite (including OptiStruct for topology optimization, HyperMesh, AcuSolve and solidThinking Evolve) to rethink mold design for 3D printing and conformal tempering.
Altair developed and validated optimized models, ran topology and CFD simulations, and prepared 3D‑printable designs with integrated conformal cooling, enabling Protiq to produce lighter, faster molds. The Altair solution delivered measurable gains: molds that are 75% lighter, a 25% reduction in lead time and a 25% cut in production costs, dramatically reduced cycle times and improved part quality, and led Protiq to adopt the Altair HyperWorks suite in‑house.
