A Altair Case Study
Lockheed Martin, a global aerospace and defense company, faced the challenge of managing government-owned high-performance computing (HPC) resources across multiple security domains on Red Hat Enterprise Linux using MLS/CDS configurations. Because users and data at different security levels had to share the same hardware, Lockheed Martin needed a workload manager that could operate in a cross-domain environment; they engaged Altair to address scheduler compatibility and integration with Red Hat’s cross-domain security.
Altair implemented PBS Professional with cross-domain (CDS/MLS) support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, deploying it across SGI and Cray clusters to enable a single system to serve users at more than 20 security levels. The Altair solution consolidated Lockheed Martin’s HPC footprint into two supercomputers, improving utilization and efficiency and delivering tens of millions of dollars in procurement cost savings, reduced datacenter footprint and power consumption, and a simplified IT architecture.
