LEIBER Group, a specialist in lightweight metal components for the automotive industry, needed to redesign a cast-iron suspension beam to be significantly lighter while meeting strict strength and safety requirements. To accelerate concept development and avoid iterative trial-and-error, LEIBER used solidThinking Inspire — the design optimization tool from Altair — alongside its own new forgeable alloy, AluXtrem®.

Using Altair’s Inspire for simulation-driven concept generation and defining the design space and load conditions, LEIBER produced an optimized geometry forged in AluXtrem® that delivered a greater than 50% weight reduction versus the original cast-iron part. The Altair-powered workflow also shortened manufacturing and testing lead times, improved fatigue performance, enabled more economical production, and earned the design a EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM AWARD.
