KTex - Customer Case Study

KTex needed to precisely represent and predict the behavior of composite materials and manufacturing effects — from yarn-scale material response and multi‑scale structural areas to realistic filament‑wound parts and aeronautic radome lay‑ups. The customer’s challenges included selecting the best fabric and modeling fiber orientation and fiber volume fraction so simulations would reflect true mechanical and electromagnetic performance.

Altair addressed these needs using the KTex suite (KTex Pattern, KTex WovenProperty, KTex Winding, KTex LayUp) integrated inside HyperMesh and run with RADIOSS (with material/property cards for OptiStruct where needed). The vendor delivered yarn‑scale FE models, homogenized macroscale properties, ready‑to‑run winding simulations and multi‑scale workflows, and mapping to FEKO for radome electromagnetics — producing simulation results that are very close to reality, enabling validated designs and lighter composite structures.
