Increasing Robustness and Reliability of a Race Car Engine with AcuSolve

Prodrive, a leading motorsport and technology business responsible for programmes such as Aston Martin Racing, faced the challenge of running multiple CFD iterations on complex V8 engine water jacket geometry within a compressed timeframe and with relatively inexperienced users. To bring CFD capability in-house and speed development, Prodrive turned to Altair and its AcuSolve solver (with AcuFieldView for post-processing).

Altair implemented an automated AcuSolve-based workflow that streamlined defeaturing, meshing and solver setup so simulations can be loaded in minutes, standardised outputs and simplified reporting to Prodrive’s Engine Development group. The result was greater robustness, faster turnaround and reduced reliance on costly lab testing—enabling Prodrive to make quicker, better-informed design decisions and realise measurable time and cost savings thanks to Altair’s solution.
