Improving Driver Experience by Eliminating Squeak & Rattle Noise

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), an EV and technology developer formed from the engineering teams of SAAB Automobile, faced the challenge of accurately predicting and eliminating interior squeak and rattle (S&R) noise—a problem that is more audible in quiet electric powertrains. NEVS turned to Altair and its simulation capabilities, deploying Altair ProductDesign’s Squeak and Rattle Director (SnRD) as part of the Altair HyperWorks ecosystem to address S&R risk early in the design process.

Altair ProductDesign worked on-site with NEVS to build FE models using GD&T, run worst‑case and sine‑sweep analyses, perform root‑cause and component optimization studies, and deliver detailed guidance for design changes. The Altair SnRD implementation enabled rapid identification of S&R risk areas, accelerated development time, reduced the need for physical prototypes, and allowed sensitivity studies on materials, tolerances and loads—delivering measurable cost and time savings across NEVS’s interior development program.
