A Altair Case Study
Imperial Auto Industries, a leading Indian manufacturer of fluid transmission products, faced persistent manufacturing challenges such as wrinkle formation in fuel injector pipes, spring-back and angular spring-back during bending, elevated thinning percentages, high-stress hotspots, cross-section flattening, and radial expansion. To tackle these issues the company adopted Altair solutions—most notably Altair HyperWorks and Altair Inspire Form—to improve simulation-driven design and manufacturing accuracy.
Altair implemented HyperWorks workflows and Inspire Form at Imperial Auto to simulate and optimize forming and bending processes, which reduced thinning percentages, mitigated high-stress areas, and minimized spring-back effects. Validation showed CAE results within 8–10% of physical tests (with a target of 3–5%), demonstrating strong predictive accuracy and streamlined development. Imperial Auto will continue using Altair tools (including Altair CFD, SimLab, and SimSolid) for expanded structural, thermal, and leakage simulations as it moves into hydrogen-vehicle product development.
