Case Study: Imperial Auto Industries achieves 70% faster product development and 40-50% cost savings validating O-ring contact pressure with Altair HyperWorks (Altair)

Imperial Auto has Successfully Validated the Contact Pressure for O-Ring by Contact Analysis using Altair OptiStruct™ Solution

Imperial Auto Industries, a leading global manufacturer of fluid transmission products, faced a challenge validating O-ring contact pressure to prevent leakage at a required air pressure of 3 kg/cm2. The team was relying on multiple prototype iterations and long turnaround times, so they selected Altair and its HyperWorks suite (using HyperMesh and HyperView, and later OptiStruct) to provide a robust simulation-based solution.

Using Altair HyperWorks, Imperial Auto Industries meshed the rubber O-ring model, ran non-linear quasi-static contact analyses to assess contact status, forces and pressure, and interpreted results in HyperView; they then applied Altair OptiStruct for design optimization. Altair’s tools allowed the team to confirm the O-ring met specifications, cut overall product development time by about 70%, reduce prototyping and development costs by roughly 40–50%, and achieve weight and turnaround reductions.
