HyperWorks CAE Process Automation Accelerates Product Development at Scania

Scania, the Sweden-based manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses, faced a major CAE challenge: rapidly verifying many highly customized truck variants with finite-element (FE) simulations. The manual assembly of virtual models—positioning hundreds of components, defining contacts and pre-strained bolts—was slow and error-prone, so Scania chose Altair’s HyperWorks CAE framework (including a HyperWorks Process Manager-based solution) to automate the process while preserving user interactivity.

Altair delivered a semi-automatic pre-processing manager built on HyperWorks that reads CAD libraries, positions components, cuts holes, generates pre-tensioned “spider” bolt connections, and lets analysts interactively manage assembled FE models before job submission. The Altair implementation significantly increased simulation efficiency and robustness, improved FE model quality, reduced development cycle time, standardized the CAE process, and increased flexibility during product development.
