Case Study: Sea Ray achieves shorter time-to-market and improved boat performance with Altair HyperWorks

A Altair Case Study

HyperWorks at Sea Ray Engineering High-Performance Pleasure Boats

Sea Ray, the U.S.-based maker of high-end pleasure boats, needed to balance sleek styling, highly configurable interior space and heavy customer options with top performance and shorter time-to-market. To address this, Sea Ray turned to Altair and its HyperWorks suite (including HyperMesh, HyperView, OptiStruct, HyperGraph and MotionView) to support full-vessel CAE rather than just subsystem analysis.

Altair’s HyperWorks workflow enabled Sea Ray to scale from subsystem models to full-system FEA, grow its CAE team to seven engineers, and build a library of full-vessel models covering every boat size. Using Altair tools for inertia relief, vibration and durability analyses, Sea Ray reduced structural mass to improve speed and acceleration, shortened design cycles, and now routinely performs early design studies—supporting the company’s cadence of 8–12 new or refreshed models per year.
