HyperMesh and Custom Export Template Streamline CFD Analysis in Research Projects at Arizona State University

Arizona State University researchers in the Integrative Simulations & Computational Fluids Lab (SEMTE) needed to mesh complex geometries for the spectral element CFD code Nek5000, which requires 3D hexahedral elements. They wanted to leverage Altair’s HyperMesh as a general preprocessor but faced the challenge of exporting HyperMesh meshes into a format Nek5000 could accept.

Altair’s HyperMesh, paired with a custom export template, was used to convert and organize mesh data into the Nek5000 user template; the export template sorts and formats all data so meshes generated in HyperMesh can be imported directly. Altair’s solution streamlined the workflow for Arizona State University, making the process significantly more user-friendly and less error-prone.
